Libforall Board Members Invited to Meet
Karen Hughes
JAKARTA, INDONESIA
~
Ambassador Karen Hughes, U.S. Under Secretary of State for
Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs, honored Libforall Foundation
board member Ahmad Dhani at a charity iftaar (breaking the Ramadhan
fast) dinner held October 21, 2005 at a children's center in the
Proklamasi neighborhood of central Jakarta.
|
Ambassador Hughes told the assembled children
and their mothers that she felt especially honored to be joined
by "a very important guest," Indonesian rock star Ahmad Dhani,
"who is using his celebrity to promote a vision of peace and
tolerance" in a world torn by religious hatred and
violence.

Children attending the event were delighted by the visit of
their idol Dhani and his family.

Young children who earn a living playing music on
the streets of Jakarta accompany Ahmad Dhani in a lively
rendition of one of his hit songs. |
| As the event's host (white shirt, holding a
microphone) told Karen Hughes, "Ahmad Dhani is more popular than
Indonesia's president," who was elected in 2004 with a
significant majority of the popular vote. |
